Resumé of Douglas C. Stevens M.D.
Work experience:
Harmonic
(Sept 2010-present)
- (Following Harmonic's purchase of Omneon Video Networks). Implemented
support for Panasonic AVCI codec in the MIP 7000 series product line.
In process: implementing support for another MPEG encoder; implementing
H.264 bitstream verifier.
-
- Architected, designed, and implemented software for the MediaPort
product line, including MPEG program stream demultiplexer, DV, DVCPRO,
MPEG, and IMX drivers for the C-Cube codecs, IBM decoders,
Zoran/Teralogic decoders (involving extensive re-write of a 475K-line
code base to support re-entrancy), MainConcept codec (CPU-based
DVCPRO-HD encode and decode), Firewire (1394) AV/C target,
drivers for RS422, VITC and LTC, AES/EBU audio, VANC, SDI video,
genlock (reference), and an Omneon-designed video FPGA.
For the central controller ("Director"),
architected, designed, and implemented the AV/C VTR target and Louth
listener. Developed bitstream parser/verifiers for MPEG-1/2 video
elementary streams, MPEG-2 program streams, MPEG-2 transport streams,
DV/DVCPRO25/DVCPRO50/DVCPRO100 streams, and MXF streams. These bitstream
tools are used extensively in verification of customer-supplied clips.
Responsible for triage of field issues for MediaPort products.
-
- Video and Networking Division.
One of the core team of architects which designed the
Emmy-award-winning Profile video disk recorder.
I was responsible for architecture, design, and implementation of:
Windows NT inter-processor communications library (including some NT
kernel drivers), VdrPanel (the primary user-interface GUI), and RS422
protocol listeners (Louth, Odetics, and Sony Betacam). Specified and
designed the first release of the Profile RS422 protocol
(used by numerous third-party developers). Project leader for the MPEG
encoder/decoder system for Profile: architected the system, designed
and implemented the decoder system, and supervised and coordinated
other engineers in the design of the encoder system.
- Television Division. Designed video waveform editor and
programmable waveform board for TSG1050/1125/1250 HDTV generators.
Project leader for TSG1001 programmable HDTV generator (used by the ATTC
and CableLabs for testing of proposed HDTV standards for the government).
Project leader for PE1001 high-BW PAL generator. Project leader for WFM601
serial-digital waveform generator (fast-track project). Researched
algorithms for quantifying quality of compressed-video signals.
- Portable Oscilloscopes Division. SW project leader for
2245/46/46A/47 scopes. HW/SW architecture; HW design of processor system
and front panel; SW design of front-panel, DAC, and A/D system;
supervision/coordination of 3 SW and 2 HW engineers.
- Portable Oscilloscopes Division. Evaluation engineer.
Projects included 2235/6/7, 2445/65 scopes.
